Meal planning with kids can be a challenge but when you make it interactive, kids can view it as a lot of fun! Have your child use My Plate as a guide for planning each meal! This will enable them to understand what should be on their plate every day. Additionally, My Plate is a great tool to use in quizzing your children on their food group knowledge! Here is a link to some great My Plate activities and games!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I'm not sure why I have never thought to bring the concept to my own kids, but have a brother with Down syndrome and he uses a mat with squares and circles for food groups to place his servings on. It's very similar to the MyPlate idea, but homemade. He is able to look at the lunch placemat and select a balanced meal based on different categories with suggested portion sizes. This is great for him since it aids his independence. Like you, I have two kids under ten and know that they love any chance to feel independent. Thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer! It's a great idea to start teaching your children young! Providing activities and quizzes them will be a great way to engage them in food nutrition. I don't have kids, but I've always thought it was important to provide them with a well balanced diet. Teaching them young will allow them to make great decision on their own. Great idea!
